PSA: National Emergency Preparedness Month

This Thursday, September 11th, I have the privilege of attending and photographing a very important event in our community. I would love to invite each and every one of you to attend. I believe very strongly in being prepared for any emergency that might happen, whether it be a terrorist attack, a natural disaster (remember our floods!??), or otherwise. How often do we say, "yeah, I should probably have things together JUST IN CASE." I think we all do it. I'm including below the details and would love to see you there to support this great cause and learn how to better plan for those "just in case" moments.

September is National Preparedness Month – Central IN NAPO Professional Organizers and the IN Dept. of Homeland Security join forces on Sept. 11 to educate Hoosiers about the importance of being prepared for a local and national emergency

Indianapolis, IN (August 2008) The Indiana Department of Homeland Security and local National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) members have joined forces to host an event on September 11th from 6pm to 8pm EST at the Emmis Communications building (One Emmis Plaza, 40 Monument Circle, Indianapolis, IN 46204) to recognize National Preparedness Month and to educate the public on the steps necessary to be prepared for a local and national emergency. Mayor Greg Ballard will be speaking.

The focus of this year’s National Preparedness Month is to share at the local level the preparedness plan developed by the US Department of Homeland Security, which can be found at www.READY.gov. The preparedness plan consists of four important steps:

§ Get a Kit
§ Make a Plan
§ Be Informed
§ Get Involved

Mayor Greg Ballard, Indiana Homeland Security Department, the local Red Cross, along with other key government officials, will be on hand to speak on the importance of being prepared and of having the necessary supplies on hand. Also, people can learn about preparedness initiatives that Indiana is involved with to keep its citizens safe. The event will also honor those who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001 during a national emergency.

Come join us for this important event, receive practical information, and learn what you can do to be prepared for a national emergency. There will be many door prizes and all who attend will receive an information packet.

The event takes place at the Emmis Communications Building, One Emmis Plaza, 40 Monument Circle, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Time of the event is 6pm – 8pm EST.
